Rob (pictured here) is back from the states for a visit. We had dinner with him and all of Andrew's uni group at Montien Thai in Naremburn. I think it's time for a haircut Rob! I like a man with a shaved head!

Rob, with his long locks, reminds a little bit of a golliwog which made me wonder if I was being politically incorrect. The golliwog is, according to dictionary.com, "a doll fashioned in grotesque caricature of a Black male" and in old stories they were often portrayed as rude, mischievious villians. However, the word golliwog for me only has positive connotations... yummy chocolate biscuits (which they no longer make because of the racist stereotype associated) and cuddly dolls. Obviously the word was (still is?) a racist stereotype but can its meaning change? Will golliwogs remain taboo because of their origins? It's a shame because I saw the cutest golliwogs at the Quilt and Craft fair and I was going to make one for Oscar.

After dinner, just to be different, I convinced everyone that pistachio gelato was the dessert of choice *grin*. Ok so not everyone agreed on pistachio but we all agreed on gelato. So we moved to Bravo Trattoria in Crows Nest. Along with pistachio gelato (very important) their menu includes 101 pasta dishes. Whenever I see something like that I take it as a challenge! I wonder how many visits it would take to sample all 101 pastas. I think the best way to do it would be to take 100 of my closest friends, make them each order a different dish and then have a smidgen off each plate. Maybe I'd still have room for gelato when we'd finished. There is always room for dessert! (Photos)

On Friday evening we had dinner with Andrew's uni group at The Malaya on King St Wharf. It was great to catch up with them all, we hadn't seen them in ages. The food at The Malaya was quite nice, although a bit too spicy for my tastes.

We finished the evening with icecream at Passionflower. They have fallen in my estimation as they had run out of pistachio gelato :(. I knew we should have gone to Gelatissimo! (Photos)

This weekend it was Andrew's turn to entertain his friends in our new apartment. Yet another mini housewarming, the only way we can do it because our apartment is too small for one huge housewarming. Once again we met at our place and everyone was given the guided tour. We then had brunch at Annie's Café in Erskineville (they must be loving us!) and I had a yummy gourmet brekkie (poached eggs, smoked salmon and spinach). Back to our place after brunch, where Andrew showed everyone his new nerf weapon. What is it with boys and their toys? Everyone was very impressed with Andrew's nerf gun and they all wanted one of their own. Just a big bunch of kids!

Thanks for coming everyone, we hope you had a good time! (Check out the photos here).

On Sunday we had a uni get-together (plus extras) at our place. It was kind of a mini-housewarming, show off our new place to everyone and also because uni people hadn't seen each other in a while. We met first at our house (eventually, after some mixedup directions from me *ooops*) and everyone got a tour of the apartment...this took about two seconds. Our apartment has never seen so many people, it was very squishy with 18 people, not really enough room. So we soon headed to Annie's Café for brunch where most people opted for a farmer's brekkie (eggs, bacon, mushies, hashbrowns). I had a gourmet brekkie (poached eggs, spinach, smoked salmon, hashbrowns) yummo! After brunch some people left (to study for exams, watch DVDs with surround sound or watch footy) and the rest of us returned to the apartment to watch a DVD, chicken run! Check out the photos (Click here).

Thanks for coming everyone, we hope you had a good time!

Photos are now up from the latest uni friends dinner (Click here). Well I can tell you that I haven't been quite that drunk for a while now. We started the evening with pre-dinner cocktails at the Clock Hotel. As it was happy hour we just had to have two cocktails each. I had a raspberry daiquiri and then a toblerone, yummo!

Dinner was at Bar Reggio on Crown st. The food was ok and there was about one bottle of wine per person (we're getting older, we're wine drinkers now). After dinner we headed to a pub down the road (I have no recollection of the name), where the boys played pool and the girls gossiped. Great fun! Thanks goes to Pete for organising the evening.
