The Southside girls celebrated the end of the season with a shindig at The Wedge in Newtown. It was a night of girly fun with pizza, chocolate, champagne and gossip. We also had a bit of a Karaoke session. Andrew borrowed a PlayStation from a friend and I borrowed SingStar, a Karaoke game, from the video store. What girly evening is truly complete without a bit of Karaoke?

With normal Karaoke, there are all sorts of techniques you can employ to hide the fact that you can't actually sing.

You can wow the audience with your air guitar skills. You can clutch the microphone with both hands. You can do associated actions with the words of the song. You can shake your booty. You can close your eyes and sing from your heart.

Unfortunately, these diversionary tactics won't work with SingStar. At the end of each song, SingStar gives you a rating based on whether you hit the right notes and were in time with the music. Most of us were rated as Wannabes, but we did have one Lead Singer. Jo, she plays Frisbee for Australia and she can sing! Some people have all the luck *G*.

The Australian Ultimate Championships were held recently at Queens Park in Randwick. With 4 days of Frisbee playing, 545 players and 34 teams from around Australia and New Zealand, it was Australia's biggest Frisbee competition. The Southside Girls had a great competition. We progressed through the rounds to the semi finals where we were narrowly defeated by Ishtar by two points.

The semi-final was a nail biting affair. At time cap, the score was 8 - 5; the first team to reach 9 points would win the game. Southside managed to score two points in succession; the score was 8 - 7. We only needed to score one more point to level the scores. We got the disc to our end zone but didn't manage to score a goal. Possession returned to Ishtar and they hucked it to their end zone. A foul was called by Ishtar, but quickly retracted. Confusion followed, Southside defence failed and Ishtar scored an easy goal to win the game.

After such an exhausting and emotionally charged semi-final, Southside girls decided to forfeit the 3rd/4th ranking game. Our official result for the tournament is 4th. (Can I say equal 3rd? It sounds better :D.) The Australian Womens Champions were Tumeke from NZ (defeated Ishtar VIC in the final). The Australian Mens Campions were Chilly from Victoria (defeated Falkuti P NSW in the final).

Our results from the competition:

Southside Results: Australian Ultimate Championships
Round 1:
(must come top two to progress to the next round)
Southside def. Furyness (SA)
Southside def. Sugar Magnolias (NSW)
Ishtar (VIC) def. Southside
Round 2:

Southside def. Sultry (QLD)
Southside def. Phoenix (ACT)
Manly (NSW) def. Southside
Quarter Finals:Southside def. Wildcard Jokers (NSW)
Semi-Finals:Ishtar (VIC) def. Southside
3rd/4th Placing:Southside forfeited to Manly (NSW)

I want to thank Carlie, Bel, Jo, Sian and Lisi for all their help this season. I believe that I have improved quite a bit over the last season and it's mainly due to the coaching efforts of these very talented girls.

Photos are up from the party; a crazy hair affair held at Bar Broadway (photos). Some photos, from the competition, taken by Roger Barnes, are up here, including this fantastic shot of Jo catching the Frisbee to score for Southside.

What!?! More Frisbee photos!?! Just hear me out though; I've finally got photos of people playing Frisbee. On the weekend, Southside fielded a team in the National Ultimate Frisbee League (NUFL) competition. Andrew and I went along to watch Southside play Ishtar (Melbourne). It was a highly competitive and fast-flowing game. Since I was watching and not playing, I managed to snap a few photos here and there. (I only had my teeny-tiny camera though. No telephoto lens for me!)

NUFL is a special league designed to bring elite players from around Australia together to compete against each other. Gotta keep those top players fit and keen, so we can win medals at the World championships.

Southside girls won the competition and were undefeated at the end of the weekend. A fantastic result girls. Congratulations!

We are the Champions! Well not quite... Southside Women's Ultimate team were runners up at the recent Regionals Competition held in Wollongong. I had a fantastic time playing with the girls on the weekend. It really is something to be part of such a cohesive and talented team.

I've posted the photos from the weekend. Well, photos from the party on Saturday night. Once again, I only have photos of us out on the town; there are no photos of the actual tournament. I'm so focused on my game that I forget to take photos of the frisbee. (yeh that sounds like a good excuse *G*). (photos)

A pat on the back goes to, Eugenie, our French import. I'm quite impressed with how quickly she's learnt to deal with a typical Australian sense of humour. We spent the better part of Saturday night mangling her beautiful language (German Fish! le Poisson Rouge!). She responded by dishing out her own insults in return. She just needs to acquire a taste for Vegemite and she can become an honorary Australian. By the way Eugenie, I promise I won't say Merci Buckets anymore *G*.

Shortly after the Canberra tournament, Eugenie asked me to post some photos she took on day 2. I'm such a slacka that I've only just put them up.
