Sydney / Melbourne: Saturday morning
Project5213 Week 37

"Some weekends, Andrew and I are guilty of a bit of a parenting short cut. When Evie gets up earlier than we'd like her to, we sometimes convince her that she'd like to come to bed with us and watch some tele on the ipad. That way we get a little bit more of a lie in. We hit the jackpot when we convince her to wear her headphones too. That way I actually get to go back to sleep for a few episodes of Octonauts."

Melbourne / Sydney: Wednesday evening
Project5213 Week 28

"Bear is Evie's favourite soft toy. When we talk about who is in our immediate family he is always included - Mummy, Daddy, Evie and Bear Wilson. Whenever I go in to check on Evie of a night time Bear is always tucked under one arm.

For a while, just after Evie started daycare, she relied on Bear being there to comfort her more than usual. Bear went to the park, the supermarket and playgroup (and got left at playgroup... oops!) with her and even watched over her while she had a bath.

Apparently Evie likes a bit of an audience while she bathes. Both Bear and Knuffle Bunny on this occasion.

Melbourne / Sydney: Friday lunch time
Project5213 Week 34

"Yes, I'm one of those mums. One of the mums who puts money in the little rides at the shopping centres.

I never used to be. It used to be enough for Evie to have a little play on the ride. That's when she didn't know what they could do. Then one day, someone put some money in to make a ride go. Now she always asks me "
Mummy, can you put some money in please?" And I give in.

I do use the possibility of a ride as a reward (read: bribery). We always do it at the end of a shopping visit. I can stall her wanting to play on every single ride at the centre by mentioning that we'll have a go on one at the end. She can have a go on one if she sits nicely in the trolley and doesn't whinge.

I tell myself that I'm teaching her delayed gratification. But really, I do it because she enjoys it. I feel like $2 isn't much to spend when she gets such joy out of the experience. Look at that happy smile in the photo above.
"

Sydney / Melbourne: weekday evening
Project5213 Week 24

"It's no surprise that Evie knows her way around her technology. She does have two geeks for parents. She can unlock an iPad and start an app or watch a video. She can even navigate her way around iView. She often says to me "I want to play iView Mummy!"

One of her favourite things to do at the moment is take photos using my phone. She holds the phone up to her eye and says "
Stand still. Say cheese! Smile!" and then "Come and look at the photo Mummy". It's funny that she mimics the use of a traditional camera by pretending to look through a viewfinder. I don't take many photos that way anymore. "

Melbourne / Sydney: weekday afternoon
Project5213 Week 23

"Evie and I have a very regular daily routine. My personality type favours routine. I like to know what I'm supposed to be doing from one moment to the next.

In the mornings Evie and I get out of the house. We go to play groups, or kindy gym, or music class, or have play dates in the local park. In the afternoons we're homebodies. I set Evie up with some craft and I get some housework done. I tell Evie to play at craft while I potter.

Evie loves playing with play doh. To get her to play with it for a little bit longer I bought some paddle pop sticks and craft eyes. She likes to make little creatures with 10 eyes and 20 arms. She'll play happily for up to an hour at this game. When she gets bored she'll say to me
"Mummy, I want to potter too!""
