It seems that recently all my posts on FuShMuSh have been of the "we're going to <<insert European destination of your choice>>" or "we're returning from <<said European city>>" variety. I'm hoping to provide you guys with a little more substance over the coming weeks.
Did you guess our mystery destination? Of course, it was Amsterdam; land of windmills, tulips, clogs and live sex shows. Once again, we tagged along on one of John and Leah's planned mini-breaks. Well, not really a holiday for John as he was playing in an ice hockey tournament over the weekend. When we were invited to join them, we thought "why not!" It was a chance for another stamp in our passports and an opportunity to explore a new city with good friends.
We only had two days in Amsterdam but our itinerary was still quite relaxed. Our running sheet looked like this:
| Friday >> Experience Amsterdam's nightlife for the first time. >> eat chips with mayo >> Regret chips with mayo at 3am | Saturday... >> Visit Anne Frank's house >> Eat pancakes >> Browse Waterpoolein flea market >> Visit Rembrandt plaza >> Watch cricket and drink beer >> Walk through flower market >> Meet up John and Leah >> Eat more pancakes >> Drink more beer >> Enjoy dinner of enchiladas, burritos and chimichanga at Argentinean steak house in Amsterdam >> Drink more beer at In De Wildeman, a boutique beer cafe | Sunday... >> Catch a train to Delft >> Eat pancakes >> Conduct walking tour of Delft >> Drink beer >> Catch train to airport >> Say goodbye to John, Leah, Mike and Dan >> Wait >> Wait >> Wait >> Wait more because plane is delayed >> Catch flight to London, minicab to SheBu >> CRASH! |
I can't say that Amsterdam is at the top of my favourite European cities list. It could be that I'm a little burnt out from all our recent traveling. Or it could be because we found Amsterdam to be a little bit seedy. The red light district and "coffee shops", two of Amsterdam's main attractions (to bucks / stag nights anyway), don't really appeal to either Andrew or me. Although Amsterdam itself wasn't awe-inspiring, we still had a really great weekend because we were in good company. Thanks for organising the trip John and Leah! We always have a super fun time with you guys. Thanks also to Mike and Dan for being our roomies!
I think the highlight of my weekend was a compliment from Andrew. It was probably the sweetest thing he's ever said to me. He said "I didn't think it was possible to love you any more than I already do, but I do now you're a beer-drinker!" Awww, he's a true Aussie bloke (and I love you too hunni).

It's time for a round of "Where in the world are Andrew and Jess?". We're off on another mini-break this weekend; can you guess the destination? The place evokes images of clogs, tulips, windmills, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Anne Frank, red light districts, live sex shows, canals, special brownies and fries with mayonnaise.
Figured out our destination yet? See ya next week!
(Happy Birthday to Emily and Brendan for the 24th. Technically, as I type this, it is the 24th in Australia. Yay, I'm the first to wish you happy birthday!)
