A few weeks ago Andrew and I journeyed up to Byron Bay to celebrate our anniversary (and to put some kms on the car). Originally we were going to go to Brisbane to see the polar bears at Seaworld. However, Andrew gave me a skydiving gift voucher for Chistmas and I decided I wanted to skydive somewhere with a spectacular view (out at Picton it's green fields and cows). We stayed at Bamboo Cottage, a bed and breakfast close to the centre of town. We nicknamed it Mosquito Mansion because of the plague numbers of mosquitos. You'd get bitten 4 or 5 times just walking from the car to our bedroom.
Skydiving was fantastic! I was very nervous while waiting for my turn and then it took 20 minutes to climb to jump height. By the time we got to 12000 feet I was having serious doubts about whether or not I actually wanted to jump. But by then it was too late, I was strapped to my instructor, the plane door was open and before I knew it, we were out of the plane. I screamed very loudly as we fell from the plane but once we hit terminal velocity it was just like flying (or what I imagine flying would feel like). I recommend it, it was definitely worth doing. But I must say that it wasn't as bad as bungee jumping, I nearly passed out doing that! With skydiving there isn't any ground rush and with a tandem skydive your instructor makes the decision to jump out of the plane.
We also went snorkelling out at Julian Rocks. There were heaps of fish and we even saw a few green sea turtles and a giant loggerhead turtle!
