John and his John-sized beerLeah and ColeHappy Birthday John!Bek has too many cocktails

We've celebrated a few birthdays in the month of May.

John turned 30 on May 24th. To celebrate John's birthday we had dinner with John and Leah and Leah's lovely family who were over for a visit. Leah's aunties had a great time making fun of our accent. They thought it quaint and mocked us saying "spayess" = space and "playen" = plane. It was strange to be on the receiving end of the teasing (Must be the Canadian nation getting even for Andrew's ribbing of Sarah's accent). Leah's beautiful nephew Cole was also there. Yay! A baby fix. I don't get many of those in London.

Bek turns 24 on May 24th. To celebrate Bek's birthday, we went out for drinks at Guanabara on Saturday evening. Andrew and I managed to slip in at 6.50pm and make efficient use of the last 10 minutes of happy hour. We bought four £3 cocktails... a bargain! At 9ish Andrew, Grant and I popped out to have dinner at a nearby Japanese restaurant. After dinner, us oldies headed home and young'un Grant headed back to the nightclub to party on.

Juzzy's birthday is May 28th. Juzzy gets a bank holiday for his birthday so we're heading south to Penzance for the long weekend. We've already got into the spirit of things with a number of emails sprinkled with the phrases "arrrr me hearties", "ahoy me maties" and "yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum" doing the rounds.

And a big Happy Birthday to all our absent friends who have a birthday in May. Here is a big virtual hug for you all. Happy Birthday Sharon! Happy Birthday Matt! Happy Birthday Sue! Happy Birthday Simon! Happy Birthday Kate! Happy Birthday Tony! Happy Birthday Sarah! Happy Birthday Hannah! Happy Birthday Dowley!

These days, mobile phones are an essential part of everyday life. When I'm running late, I call the person I'm supposed to be meeting and warn them. If I lose Andrew in the shopping centre, I call him on my mobile phone to find out where he's disappeared to. If we need to know the name of the horse that She-ra (Princess of Power) rides, we call vodafone 123 on our mobile phones. That's right, an essential tool! So, what do you do when you've left your phone at home and your boyfriend's phone is new and doesn't have any numbers in its address book? Well, on Saturday evening, Andrew and I discovered just how hard life can be without a mobile phone.

On Wednesday, Bek is leaving to go on an African Safari for 6 weeks. She had arranged to have farewell drinks on Saturday night at Pontoon bar @ Cockle Bay. Andrew and I rocked up to Pontoon at 9.30pm (only 1.5 hours late) and after a couple of laps of the bar, we realised that Bek was nowhere to be found. It's at this stage, that I discovered that I'd left my phone, with her number in the address book, at home. Andrew had his phone, but with no numbers in the phone address book. We had no way of contacting Bek to find out where she was.

We then started the great ring around of 2005:

It was very disappointing! After all that hard work we still didn't manage to hook up with Bek. At least we had a few more numbers in Andrew's phone address book and we had a couple of drinks at the bar. The night wasn't a complete waste of time!
